Troutbeck Head

The nearest National Cycle Network route is route 71, the C2C which is 1.5 miles from site. There are many other routes to pick up within a mile of the site including mountain bike routes for those wanting something a little tougher.

Or pack up the bikes and travel a bit further to Grizedale Forest Park, which has a variety of forest roads and mountain bike trails to choose from. There’s even bike hire available.

Keen walkers will love the selection of walks nearby. There’s the beautiful woodland walk at Aira Force and High Force, which gives hikers a stunning view of the 65ft waterfall. Or head on one of the most popular walks in Keswick on the Catbells Trail which will give you breath-taking views of Derwent Water.

Immerse yourself in the sights and smells of a working whiskey distillery with the Lakes Distillery Tour, located in a renovated old Victorian farmstead on the shore of Bassenthwaite Lake, and discover how every flavour possibility is achieved.

Head to Brampton, about a hour from the campsite and discover Hadrian's Wall, which stretches for over 300 miles and was originally built by the Romans.

For the more adventurous amongst you, head to Honister Slate Mine in Borrowdale and experience one of their thrilling adventure activities including the 1000ft high Infinity Bridge, Climb the original underground Mine workings or try out the freefall experience in The Jump.

There are plenty of places to eat in and around the Lake District, with traditional British cuisine at the forefront of many of the local restaurants. There’s always an array of hidden cafes, tearooms and coffee shops amongst the beautiful Cumbrian backdrop.

If you want to stay close to the campsite, just five minutes away is the Troutbeck Inn which is renowned for their delicious Sunday Roasts.

Head towards Pooley Bridge and enjoy the traditional English Tearoom at Granny Dowbekins, with its riverside garden and locally sourced ingredients, you’ll be sure of a warm welcome.

Or seek out the Sun Inn, a family-run pub serving tasty meal and award-winning ales. Stay toasty in the winter months by their cosy fireplace, and as it gets warmer outside, venture to their large beer garden which also has a children’s play area.

Set in the beautiful Eden Valley, just 20 minutes away from the campsite is Abbott Lodge, a working dairy farm which produces over 30 flavours of homemade Jersey ice cream. Sample these delights and visit the Jersey cows and their calves, there’s also indoor and outdoor play areas for the kids to burn off some energy too!

In the summer months head to Lazonby Swimming Pool, a large heated outdoor pool that is manned by lifeguards. Enjoy a picnic on the big grassed area, venture to the playground nearby or simply have a dip and enjoy the pool toys and floats available.

Take a walk on the wild side at Lake District Wildlife Park, just 10 minutes from Keswick, set on 24 acres of parkland which is home to over 100 species of wild and domestic animals. A wide range of talks take place daily, giving you an insight into these stunning animals.
