Alderstead Heath

For those looking for more off-road action the Surrey Hills offers a vast range of single track mountain bike trails that crisscross through ancient woodland take you to some of the highest points in the South East. You can take the gentler approach to cycling and stop by the cycle friendly coffee shop along the way or for the inspiring pros amongst you, head to the impressively steep Box Hill.

Alderstead Heath is located in the borough of Reigate and Banstead which has an abundance of open countryside, woodland, scenery and historic sites. There’s a huge variety of walks to choose, from the historic treasure trail through Reigate town centre finishing at Reigate Castle to the 18 mile long-distance Millennium Trail that takes you from Banstead Downs to Horley. Step back in history and visit the 13^th century Hever Castle, the Tudor manor was built for Henry VIII’s second wife, Anne Boleyn and has award-winning gardens which includes a walled garden and a stunning 110 metre-long herbaceous border.

For lovers of water-activities, head to Aqua Sports just four miles from the campsite, for a day of dingy riding, windsurfing, kayaking and paddle boarding. From water to the sky, as you can enjoy breathtaking aerial views of Surrey and beyond, on a flying experience with Redhill Aviation Flight Centre, just 15 minutes drive from Alderstead Heath.

Whatever cuisine you’re craving, Surrey has lots of options for you to choose from. One of the best kept dining secrets in Redhill is the Joshua Tree, a fairly normal looking pub which hides a culinary delight.

Budding Brian Cox’s should check out The South Downs Planetarium Science Centre, with its Star Theatre and 10m dome. Experience convincing celestial events like eclipses, comets and meteor showers, alongside fascinating commentary.

Discover the Bognor Museum dating back to the million year old fossils through to the local history. Exhibits include displays of vintage cameras throughout the ages, a recreated Victorian kitchen, scale models of the Esplanade theatre and the Southdowns Art Deco Bus station.
