Highland Wildcat specialises in mountain bike trails. They have prepared three mountain bike routes around the area that are suitable for different levels of ability.
For a peaceful, circular cycle trip on traffic-free roads, try the route up towards Strath Brora and back via Dunrobin Glen.

From Brora, aim for East Clyne and Loch Brora and then return to the village along the riverside.
In Golspie, the Big Burn waterfall walk takes you through woodland and across bridges. It sits beneath Ben Braggie (the hill with the statue of Duke of Sutherland at the top) - a steep climb but a fantastic hill walk.
Three miles up the coast is Loth. Here there’s a valley that’s peppered with ferns and pine trees - at dusk the deer come down from the hills to graze.
Brora and the surrounding coastline is great for fossil hunting. If you travel up to Helmsdale there is also a licenced centre where you can pan for gold.
For countryside horse riding, the Star Stables is a five minute walk from the Heritage Centre. We’re also not far from a swimming pool, golf club and bowling club.
To warm up after a mountain walk, Clynelish Distillery lets you tour their whisky factory and taste some of the local produce.
Local to us is the Sutherland Inn and The Royal Marine Hotel.
Top lunch spots in Golspie include Coffee Bothy for a colourful selection of homemade cakes and The Courthouse Café, a contemporary deli / tea house.
If you’re in Dornoch, The Jail clothes and gift shop has a little surprise café on the ground floor.
Introduce yourself to Brora at the Heritage Centre. Entry’s free and it has a small museum as well as information on local events and activities.
Following the coast is a single track railway line. Leave the car behind and enjoy the stunning scenery as you travel north towards Wick. Stop off at Helmsdale to check out the multi-media and interactive exhibitions at Timespan museum.
