Why stay here

Our campsite sits just outside the historic town and harbour of Stonehaven. With its quaint shops and choice of restaurants overlooking the bay, the town is just a short walk away along the promenade.

There are scenic beach walks to the cliffs of Dunnottar Castle, just three miles away, and a wide choice of footpaths and cycle routes amongst the attractive countryside nearby. Venture further afield and you can explore the port city of Aberdeen.

Family days out

Adjacent to the site sits an Olympic sized sea water swimming pool for visitors to enjoy. The art deco swimming pool – open air and heated – offers simple family fun on your doorstep.

Hop on the Stonehaven Land Train which departs Market Square in Stonehaven town centre and takes passengers to Dunnottar Castle, the scenic Harbour and the open air pool then returns to Market Square. A storyteller is on board throughout the journey.

Make sure to stop at Dunnotar Castle, a spectacular ruin towering 160ft above the North Sea. Dunnotar Castle was once an impregnable fortress to the Earls Marischals of Scotland which successfully protected the Scottish crown jewels against the might of Cromwell’s Army.

Activities & experiences nearby

The National Cycle Network, Route 1, passes adjacent to the site. The Edinburgh to Aberdeen section of this route is known as the Coast & Castles North cycle route and crosses both the Forth and Tay rivers and passes through St. Andrews and Dundee.

Take the route up to the ‘Granite City’ of Aberdeen (20 miles) along the coast. There is a wonderful view across the city and its golden sands as you round the headland at Girdle Ness.

There is a coastal path outside the site entrance.

Stonehaven is so much more than a pretty seaside town. Thanks to its fireball festival and its proximity to one of Scotland's most iconic castles, there’s so much to discover by foot. The ‘Scot Free’ walking tour of Stonehaven tells you the stories behind the landmarks - featuring tales of religious discord, the Titanic and birth of the deep fried Mars bar.

Follow the route and solve the mysteries on the Heritage Treasure Hunt, a three mile walking route around Stonehaven, littered with sneaky clues on interesting & quirky permanent features for you and the little ones to solve.
