Have your first BBQ of the year this Spring

As the days start getting longer and the weather becomes brighter, celebrate Easter and this half term with your first BBQ of the year on our sites.

Easter BBQ

Everyone knows that the first BBQ of the year is the marker for the start of summer, especially for us Brits. We’ve picked some of the best campfire-friendly meals so you can celebrate Easter in style.

Hot cross buns

Toasted hot cross buns

You'll need:

  • Hot cross buns
  • Fillings of your choice
  • A cup of tea to wash it down!

Nothing says Easter like a toasted hot cross bun! Slice your buns in half, then place on the BBQ until warm and crispy.

Fill with traditional butter and jam, or try something new and fill with cheddar cheese, sliced bananas and chocolate spread, or even add bacon (we suggest avoiding ketchup with this recipe!).

Grilled lamb skewer

Lamb skewers with peppers and feta cheese

You’ll need:

  • Diced lamb
  • Chopped bell peppers
  • Chopped onions
  • Mint sauce
  • Pitta breads
  • Sprinklings of feta cheese
  • Wooden skewer sticks

First off, soak your skewer sticks in water so they don’t burn on the BBQ. (Top tip: fill a wine bottle with water, pop your skewer sticks inside and screw on the lid).

Season your lamb with salt and pepper, and marinade in your mint sauce – for best results, marinade overnight or for at least 30 minutes. Halloumi cheese makes a great vegetarian alternative to lamb for a super cheesy treat!

Load up your soaked skewer sticks with your marinated lamb and chopped peppers and onions. Once your BBQ is hot, pop the lamb skewers on for around 20 minutes (timings will vary per BBQ), turning every few minutes until cooked.

When your lamb skewers are nearly ready, place the pitta breads on the BBQ to warm them up, then fill your pittas with your crispy lamb skewers and sprinkle with feta cheese. Feel free to add a dollop of mint sauce or Greek yoghurt for a saucy extra, and enjoy!

Barbecued bananas with marshmallow and chocolate

Barbecued bananas

You’ll need:

  • Bananas (keep the skin on)
  • Chocolate spread/buttons
  • Marshmallows
  • Tin foil

No campfire dinner is complete without dessert! Try our barbecued bananas for a fruity, chocolatey treat. Slice your bananas down the middle, keeping the skin on. Fill up your bananas with chocolate and marshmallows, wrap them up in foil then place on the BBQ.

When your filling is warm and gooey, remove from the heat and enjoy with a big spoon!
