Activities & experiences nearby

There are a number of cycling routes in and around Sandringham, including Route 1, part of the National Cycle Network, which weaves its way from Dover up to Scotland. Find your way around the area on your two wheels with one of our cycling route maps, developed with the help of Sustrans. These offer not only a detailed map, but also step-by-step directions and useful route information. Pick up one for free from Reception.

There are plenty of walking opportunities around Sandringham - you can start with the two-way Nature Trail, or one of the numerous, on-site wooded walks. Make a visit to Dersingham Bog, described as the largest, most intact example of an acid valley mire in East Anglia; Dersingham’s characteristic areas of water-logged deep peat, mire, heath and woodlands are crossed by some truly lovely trails. Snettisham Woods offers some circular walks which take you out to the coastline, where you’ll spot many species of birds at RSPB Reserve Snettisham. Or enjoy a stroll on the sandy Old Hunstanton beach, which is backed by dunes and its famous striped cliffs. This westward-facing beach is well known for its stunning sunsets.

As well as its beautiful beach, Hunstanton offers plenty of activities, including a Sea Life Centre, Blackbeard’s Adventure Golf and all the fun of the fair at Rainbow Park.

The large village of Heacham overlooks The Wash and provides another ideal spot to watch the sun retiring for the night.

Explore one of the many Nature Reserves around Norfolk where you can see a variety of birds, depending on the season. During the autumn and winter you might see wigeon, pink footed or brent geese, Slavonian grebe, or the pied flycatcher. Curlew, bar-tailed godwit, redshank and lapwing can be seen all year round. And natterjack toads can be seen during the spring and summer.

Looking for a nice breakfast, home-cooked meals, cakes or an afternoon tea? Try Petals Tea Room in Dersingham, around 3 miles from the campsite. The village is also home to The Coach and Horses, which serves food sourced from local farmers, fishermen and producers.

With plenty of beaches to choose from, castles to see, nature reserves and animal parks to visit, there’s plenty for the family to enjoy.

See what animals you can find on a safari at Watatunga Wildlife Reserve, or delve into the history of Castle Rising, which dates back to 1138. Visit Bircham Windmill between April and September and you can explore the five floors of this working windmill.

But for the ultimate family day out, why not just soak up the sun (or even the rain!) at one of the coastline’s gorgeous beaches?
