Our campsite sits in the shadow of the ancient Abbey from which it takes its name, close to the banks of the River Avon. From here it’s conveniently easy to explore the nostalgic delights of the old town on foot.

This beautiful riverside town offers quaint little pubs, cruises up and down the river and a deep heritage to discover. Make sure to listen out for the annual bell ringing contests at Tewkesbury Abbey!

Family days out

Take a tour of Tewkesbury Abbey, a 10th Century building which will soon be celebrating its 900th birthday. From the Abbey you can explore the town on foot, taking in the medieval history of Tewkesbury and the surrounding villages.

A thriving market town, Tewkesbury holds a market every Wednesday and Saturday. Every second Saturday, the market expands to feature an array of delicious local produce ranging from ciders and beer to artisan breads, cakes and pastries as well as local crafts.

Explore Eastnor Castle at the foot of the Malvern Hills. Marvel at the state rooms and learn about the castle’s histories whilst the kids enjoy the adventure playground, assault course, knight’s maze, tree top walkway and zip wire in the castle grounds.

Cycling

The nearest National Cycle Network route to this site is Route 45, Gloucester to Worcester. You can follow the route through Tewkesbury on to Bushley Green, then circle back to our site along the River Severn (roughly 10 miles).

Cyclists seeking adventure will enjoy the challenging rides up Bredon Hill, Cleeve Hill and the Malvern hills.


Walking

Tewkesbury lends itself to be explored on foot with an abundance of riverside walks and country trails. Follow the Heritage & Alleyways trail or discover the famous Battle Trail around the ancient fields where the battle of Tewkesbury was held in 1471. You can pick up a copy of the routes from the Tewkesbury Heritage Centre.


Things to try

Take to the water and enjoy Tewkesbury from the River Avon. River cruises run between Tewkesbury, Croft Farm and Twyning and stop off at beautiful riverside pubs along the way.

Venture 30 minutes down the road and visit Weston’s Cider Mill, Much Marcle where you can experience a farm and cider mill tour and tasting experience. After your tour, visit the Scrumpy House Restaurant for a home cooked meal, featuring the flavours from across the Weston Cider Farm.


Pubs and restaurants

Visit the Fleet Inn in Twyning for a relaxing lunch on the riverside. Accessible by river or by road, the Fleet Inn serves local ales, classic pub grub and a succulent Sunday roast.

Try the Chocolate Indulgence challenge at Café au Chocolat - a platter of cakes, chocolates, truffles, fudge and cream. Finish it all and get your name on the café’s achievement board.

Eat at Salerno’s for a taste of Italy in Gloucestershire. This authentic, family-run restaurant sits opposite our campsite and is home to a 17th Century well which the owners have preserved under glass.
