With the Christmas season nearing, we’ve hand-picked a selection of festive activities for you to indulge in and enjoy, wherever you choose to venture to.

Discover a winter wonderland in London

There’s so much to discover in London at Christmas and after a long fun-filled festive day of exploring the capital, snuggle up in one of our comfy glamping pods or camping pods at Abbey Wood campsite.

Offering a wide variety of attractions, activities, entertainment, food and drinks, Hyde Park’s spectacular Winter Wonderland is not to be missed.

Grab yourself some mulled wine, amble through the Bavarian Christmas market, jump on a fairground ride or two, enjoy the magical Ice Kingdom and take in the stunning circus acts.

There’s also a giant wheel and ice bar and ice sculpting workshops too! There is guaranteed festive fun for everyone!

Just over half a hour from Abbey Wood by train is Queen's House Greenwich. You can skate at a stunning UNESCO World Heritage site, right in front of a former royal residence with views over Greenwich Park and beyond, from 23 Nov 2023 - 7 Jan 2024.

Or head to the decadent skating experience at Somerset House, with its glorious 40ft Christmas tree designed with specially curated decorations from Moët & Chandon from 15 Nov 2023 - 14 Jan 2024.

Take in a Christmas Show

From the traditional Pantomime to festive ballets, to wondrous theatre productions, London is the place to be to see a magical Christmas show.

Lose yourself in the festive tale of A Christmas Carol at the Old Vic Theatre from 11 Nov 2023 to 6 Jan 2024, starring Doctor Who alumnus Christopher Eccleston.

Michael Grandage's hit musical version of Disney's popular animation Frozen will melt the coldest of hearts at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, shows currently booking through June 2024.

The magical stage adaption of the traditional story of The Snowman dances onto the Peacock theatre this Christmas until 30 Dec 2023, suitable for children of all ages.

 

Celebrate the festive season by the sea in Brighton

Known as London-by-the-sea, Brighton is a mecca for Christmas activities including Christmas Day sea swimming, Santa runs, Christmas markets and seasonal ice skating. Stay at our Brighton campsite in one of our glamping pods.

Get festive at the Brighton Royal Pavilion

Visit the Royal Pavilion ice rink and enjoy family-friendly skate sessions, and then venture inside the iconic building and wander around the decadent rooms dressed for the Christmas season, with the glittering trees. You can even have your photo taken in their winter sleigh, reproduced to look like the one Queen Victoria rode in when she visited Brighton.

Grab yourself a Santa hat and suit and join thousands of other santa-clad runners in the Brighton Santa Dash, as they walk, jog and run a fun-filled 5K through Brighton City centre.

This event is on 1 day only, on Saturday 9 December 2023 at 10:30am, starting at Hove Lawns, near the Peace statue.

Celebrate a magical evening

Burning the clocks

Celebrating its 30th year, Burning the Clocks is a magical evening which celebrates the end of the year. Thousands of people from across Sussex gather to make paper lanterns before carrying them through the festive city. The lanterns are burnt on the beach, signalling the close of one year and the longer, darker days.

This event is on for one day only, so don’t miss out! It will take place on 21 Dec 2023, the shortest day of the year.

 

 

Enjoy festive fun in Gloucestershire

If you're planning a Christmas getaway to the Cotswolds this year there's plenty of festivities to get stuck into. The Cotswolds is beautiful in winter and there are many picturesque towns and villages to discover which will be illuminated by Christmas lights. Head to Moreton-in-Marsh campsite for a cosy stay in one of our glamping pods, which are fully insulated and have all the amenities you'll need for your stay.

The naughty elves have gone missing in the Arboretum! Gather the little ones, wrap up warm and join in a fun search on the Big Batsford Elf Hunt running from 1 Dec 2023 - 7 Jan 2024.

Enjoy a warming hot chocolate or lunch in the Garden Terrace Cafe afterwards.

Illuminated trails around Blenheim Palace

Enjoy some Christmas cheer at Blenheim Palace.

Enjoy the after dark illuminated trail in The Great Outdoors, with Blenheim Palace grounds magically transformed by decorations. Then watch the story of Beauty and the Beast re-imagined inside the Palace.

There is also a Palace Christmas market (open until 17 December 2023) where there will be between 60-70 chalets with an eclectic selection of seasonal gifts, delicious food and festive drinks.

Festive fun for all the family

Enjoy some traditional Christmas family fun and take in a show this season. Cheer on the heroes and boo the baddies at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham with their panto extravaganza of Mother Goose from 24 Nov 2023 - 7 Jan 2024. 

Or head to the Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury to catch a fun-filled family pantomime of Beauty and The Beast, from 2 Dec 2023 - 6 Jan 2024.

 

Yuletide treats and wintry walks in the Lake District

The Lake District is a beautiful place to visit, especially if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city living. With its quaint, picturesque villages and peaceful lakes, there’s an air of tranquillity about the region, even more so at Christmas time. You can stay in warm and cosy camping pods and glamping pods in the heart of the Lake District National Park at Coniston Park Coppice campsite.

Yuletide afternoon tea

Visit the stunning Borrowdale Hotel and indulge in an afternoon tea with your loved ones. Enjoy a selection of sandwiches and mouth watering sweet and savoury treats. You can even upgrade from tea to prosecco to get you into the festive spirit. Admire the snow-capped fells outside as you cosy up in the opulent hotel lounge.

Christmas Fair at Wordsworth’s home

For one weekend only, a Christmas gift and craft fair will be held in Wordsworth’s home at Rydal Mount. With stalls featuring work from some of the county’s best artists, makers of glass, ceramics and jewellery, along with prints and cards. Copies of poetry and books, signed by members of the Wordsworth family will also be on sale.
