Surrounded by trees and hedging, our campsite offers a peaceful oasis in the centre of York. Perfect for a city break, the site provides access to the historic city and all it has to offer, just a few minutes’ walk away.

On one side of the site, you’ll find the banks of the River Ouse, along which you can take a stroll into York city centre. On the other side of the site lies Bishopsthorpe Road - affectionately known to the locals as ‘Bishy Road’ – a street known for its abundance of cafés, restaurants and boutique shops.

 

Family days out

Possibly York’s most famous building, York Minster offers plenty of guided tours, exploring the towers, basement rooms, nooks and crannies of the 800 year old building, which was designed to be the ‘greatest cathedral in the kingdom’.

Adventure seekers can explore the largest maize maze in Europe - York Maze. The Maze boasts over 20 rides, attractions and shows, with over 15 acres of ground to explore. With mazes, obstacle courses, crazy golf and shows there’s something to keep the whole family entertained.

Discover the national locomotive history at York’s National Railway Museum. Linked with the Science Museum Group the museum offers plenty of interactive exhibits and workshops to keep the kids engaged and entertained.

Cycling

Our site sits on the banks of the River Ouse offering beautifully natural cycling routes. Follow the River through the city or venture south towards Selby. The nearest National Cycle Network route to this site is route number 65, The Trans Pennine Trail.

For a relaxing ride, follow the River round to York train station and stop in at Cycle Heaven for a spot of lunch.


Walking

Adjacent to our site is Rowntree Park, a 10-hectare recreational park which offers beautiful lakeside walks and space enough to roam the grass. Stop off at the park’s reading café for a refresher during your wander around the gardens.

You can also enjoy walks from our campsite along the picturesque river to the centre of York.


Things to try

Cruise along the beautiful River Ouse, taking in the city sights. Join an afternoon tea cruise, or combine your cruise with a tour of York Dungeon – there are plenty of daytime and evening experiences to choose from.

Enjoy a traditional English afternoon tea in the luxurious décor of the Countess of York Railway Carriage at the National Railway Museum.

Follow the Ghost Trail of York, with guided tours everyday starting at York Minster. Travel back in time and experience the terrifying tales of York’s ghostly traditions.


Pubs and restaurants

Make sure to visit ‘Bishy Road’ just behind our campsite - this local parade of cafés and restaurants has something for everyone. Visit the Pig and Pastry café for breakfast, Angel on the Green for a boozy lunch, then onto Lal Quila or one of the pubs for the evening.

Venture into the city centre and you’ll find a wealth of eateries and pubs – notably the famous Betty’s Café Tea Rooms, where you can enjoy a traditional afternoon tea or add some fizz with a glass of champagne.
